The focus of our research is in the area of biomedical optics applied to medical diagnostics and sensing. A significant portion of our work is targeted at developing technology to make the lives of diabetics better, which includes the advancement of methods to enable the noninvasive measurement of glucose in the body. Noninvasive methods do not require an extraction of a blood for analysis and do not have the pain/discomfort commonly associated with invasive type measurements. Current technologies employed include optical polarimetry and surface plasmon resonance (SPR) spectroscopy. Dr. Cameron is also affiliated with the Center for Diabetes and Endocrine Research (CeDER) which is part of the College of Medicine at the University of Toledo. Other work includes development of point-of-care technologies to facilitate earlier diagnosis and/or treatment of various medical conditions, including superficial cancers (e.g. melanoma) and therapeutic drug monitoring.
