Immunizations

To promote the health and safety of our students, employees and patients, The University of Toledo requires students to provide proof of vaccination against several infectious diseases.

Vaccines are available at the University Health Center on Main Campus.

ALL STUDENTS

Influenza (Flu)

¹û¶³´«Ã½ requires an annual influenza vaccine for all on-campus students, employees who are not represented by a bargaining unit, as well as all healthcare workers at the University of Toledo Medical Center and University clinics.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends everyone age 6 months and older receive a flu vaccine every year.

¹û¶³´«Ã½ provides free influenza immunization clinics for students and employees each year, typically beginning in October.
Proof of vaccination must beÌýsubmitted prior to Dec. 1 of each year.

COVID-19

Proof of vaccination can voluntarily be shared through the University's secureÌý.

ALL UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS

MMR

All ¹û¶³´«Ã½ undergraduate students are required to have official documentation of two MMR immunizations.

The MMR (Measles, Mumps and Rubella) is an immunization typically given twice in childhood — a first dose between 12 and 15 months and a second dose between 4 and 6 years.

In the event of a confirmed case of one of these three diseases at ¹û¶³´«Ã½, students who have not documented these two MMR immunizations in accordance with this policy will be:

  • Required to move off campus during the incubation period
  • Restricted from coming to campus to attend classes

Students will be responsible for making up classwork and paying for their relocation off campus.

Proof of vaccination must be submitted within four weeks of the first day of classes in the student’s first semester at ¹û¶³´«Ã½.

NEW UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS

Meningococcal Meningitis

Beginning in fall 2021, all incoming undergraduate students under the age of 22 are required to provide official documentation they have received one dose of the meningococcal conjugate vaccine since age 16.

The meningococcal conjugate vaccine provides protection against meningitis resulting from four separate serogroups.

Meningococcal meningitis is a particularly dangerous bacterial infection that affects the lining of the brain and spinal cord. While uncommon, it can be fatal.

Proof of vaccination must be submitted within four weeks of the first day of classes in the student’s first semester at ¹û¶³´«Ã½.

RESIDENTIAL STUDENTS

Meningococcal Meningitis and Hepatitis B

Ohio law requires all students, regardless of age, who will be residing on a college campus disclose to the University whether they have immunizations against meningococcal meningitis and hepatitis B.

Residential students must their vaccination status within four weeks of the first day of classes in the student’s first semester at ¹û¶³´«Ã½.

Students in healthcare professions

Students in the healthcare professions who are entering clinical rotations may be required by their clinical site to be vaccinated against COVID-19. Individual programs also may have additional, non-COVID vaccine requirements. Contact your specific program for more information.
