Expectations for Students

  • Schedule and either keep advising appointments or call ahead to reschedule your appointments.
  • Be prepared for advising sessions by researching degree requirements, pre/co-requisites, and career information.
  • Actively participate in advising by asking questions or by sharing and clarifying goals.
  • Follow through on advising recommendations in a timely way.

Expectations for Advisors

  • Be knowledgeable about programs, graduation requirements, policies, and procedures.
  • Encourage and guide students to develop and pursue their goals and create an academic plan.
  • Refer students to appropriate campus resources.
  • Be accessible via phone, email, and by appointment (WebEx or otherwise); and respond to students timely.
  • Follow through on actions discussed during advising session with student.
  • Recommend appropriate courses and describe catalog of record or other resources to assist student in course selection and registration.

Student Learning Outcomes

  • Follow an academic plan and compare academic progress with DARS in coordination with Academic Advisor.
  • Identify where to find their admission and program requirements, registration, and policies and procedures.
  • Use the class schedule and myUT to select and register for appropriate classes.
  • Identify the services offered by various departments on campus.
  • Contact their advisor or the Office of Graduate Programs via email, phone, or in person.

Checklist

  1. Register for classes via my myUT account and view detailed class schedule for the upcoming semester.
  2. Decide how to pay my bill and contact Rocket Solution Central for help with financial aid and payment options.
  3. Review the college policies and procedures, information about academic assistance and support, and complete the required online Graduate Orientation learning modules through the College of Graduate Studies.
  4. Access the Graduate Student Association website and view the COBI Student Organizations to investigate how to become involved on campus.
  5. Sign up for the ý alert system at Utalert.Utoledo.edu, which will provide users with text and/or email alerts. Examples include, but are not limited to, missing or abducted child, threat of violence, catastrophic power or utility failure, nuclear, biological or chemical contamination incident, or inclement weather.

  6. Decide how to pay my bill and contact Rocket Solution Central for help with financial aid and payment options.
  7. Review my address, phone number, and major in myUT and make any needed updates.
  8. Review the requirements for my program as outlined in my catalog of record on the ý website. Discuss with my advisor any questions or concerns that I may have about my plan of study or DARS report.
  9. Review and discuss my academic plan/goals with my advisor prior to registering for classes.
  10. Run a degree evaluation (DARS) for myself from myUT to determine the status toward my degree understanding that this may differ slightly from my plan of study and discuss any variations with my advisor.
  11. Meet with a career advisor and explore career options using assessments and other resources if I am job seeking or have not had an internship as an undergraduate student.

  14. Run a degree evaluation in myUT, meet with my advisor to discuss my plan of study and clearing for graduation, register for my final semester, apply for graduation via myUT, and complete my exit survey (First Destination Survey).
