Assessment Overview

Welcome to the University of Toledo University Assessment Committee!

The University Assessment Committee is committed to helping faculty and staff members evaluate how well our students meet established learning outcomes in academic programs, co-curricular experiences, and the core curriculum. The UAC鈥檚 assessment process is designed to review and improve program quality, leading to enhanced student learning, in support of the university鈥檚 ongoing commitment to excellence.

Members of the UAC, liaisons representing the colleges and service units that offer co-curricular learning, meet monthly to discuss assessment initiatives throughout campus. In the fall, they work with their respective colleagues to facilitate the annual reporting process within their individual colleges and service units. In the spring, the group analyzes the data for themes from across the community and informs the Provost of their findings. In addition, the committee hosts the institution鈥檚 annual Assessment Day, a professional development opportunity for faculty and staff each spring. The committee honors individual academic and service units by recognizing the recipients of the Excellence in Assessment Awards at this annual event.

The committee鈥檚 goals for 2024-2025 are:

  • Liaisons will continue to work with individual programs to align program learning outcomes with institutional student learning outcomes, to update curriculum mapping at the course level, and to adjust assessment plans as needed
  • Establish a distinction between certificates with intentional matriculation to be included in the assessment process, versus certificate credentials awarded towards the end of a major degree program (excluded from the assessment process)
  • Align program concentration learning outcomes and curriculum mapping within an established major, and eliminate annual assessment reporting requirements for individual concentrations within a major. Concentrations will be assessed adequately within the major鈥檚 program review cycle
