Named in recognition of the newspaper editor who established The University of Toledo, the Jesup Scott Honors College was founded in 1963, making it one of the oldest honors programs at a state university. It was established as a college in 2010.
The Honors College is highly selective but takes into account, along with applicants'
academic performance, activities that demonstrate a high level of motivation and achievement.
Direct-from-high school applicants should possess a minimum of a 3.5 high school GPA.

The Honors College significantly emphasizes experiential learning for its students. Internships and co-ops, service learning, and study abroad opportunities abound for JSHC students. The Honors College also houses the Office of Undergraduate Research and the Office of Competitive Fellowships, leading to their rich participation in research at home and abroad. Our students
also have access to Honors housing and scholarship/grant funds to defray the costs associated with research, study abroad, and other educational
opportunities.
Unique Honors programming also exists for our students that is fun, socially enriching, professionally engaging,
and culturally fulfilling. Many of these offerings are intertwined with events sponsored
by the Honors Learning Community, including trips to Cedar Point and the Toledo Museum
of Arts.
Promoting fellowship is also a key goal of the Honors College. Occupying one of the
oldest sectors of campus, the Honors College community offers its students a comfortable
yet distinguished home in the midst of a larger institution. Our students enjoy personalized
attention from their faculty and JSHC leadership - all of whom are committed to connecting
Honors students to a wide range of opportunities. In Honors classes, our students
benefit from small class sizes and deep dialogue with their peers and dynamic faculty.
This sense of community is instilled in JSHC students even before their first day
of college at Jesup Jam.
Students enrolled in the Honors College will graduate with a JSHC medallion upon achievement
of the following criteria: at least a 3.3 cumulative college GPA, a minimum of 27
Honors credit hours, the completion of slate of core Honors classes, a thesis or capstone
project, and any additional requirements for Honors set by the major department or
degree-granting college. These requirements are further detailed here.
