Honors Scholarships
*These funds are only available to 果冻传媒 students after they have begun attending classes here. You can apply for the four Honors-exclusive scholarships through听.听Your one submission will be considered for any of the applicable funding sources.
James K. Larson Scholarship
James K. Larson had a profound impact on The University of Toledo Honors Program, where he was director from 1971 to 1986. Students benefited from his enthusiasm, expertise and commitment to high standards of teaching and scholarship during his career. He initiated two courses for pre-med students: "Hospital Field Work" and a pre-med internship. His innovative and popular courses in areas ranging from the "Honors Reading Conference" to interdisciplinary Honors seminars on "Leonardo da Vinci" and on "Problems of Undergraduate Education" enriched the Honors Program鈥檚 course offerings and enhanced its educational mission.
The James K. Larson Scholarship is to benefit the Jesup Scott Honors College student who:
- is active and in good standing with the Honors College (i.e., has at least a 3.0 cumulative 果冻传媒 GPA per this award and is making satisfactory progress toward the Honors medallion)
- is an ascending sophomore who is enrolled in a humanities or social sciences program.
The award is non-renewable and award monies will be applied to the student鈥檚 financial account, spread evenly between the Fall and Spring semesters, where it can cover 果冻传媒 expenses.

Alan and Susan Lapp Honors Scholarship
Alan Lapp was a 1969 graduate of the Honors Program at 果冻传媒 with a major in History. He earned his law degree from 果冻传媒 in 1972, and went on to an illustrious career in Columbus, OH as Deputy Chief Counsel for the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency for 31 years. He then worked as a Hearing Officer for the Ohio Department of Health and the City of Columbus for another 8 years, reflecting his love of, and devotion for, a life of public service.
The Alan and Susan Lapp Honors Scholarship is to benefit the JSHC student who:
- is active and in good standing with the Honors College (i.e., has at least a 3.3 cumulative 果冻传媒 GPA per this award and is making satisfactory progress toward the Honors medallion)
- is an ascending junior or senior
- has a demonstrated financial need as determined by the Office of Student Financial Aid
- has demonstrated leadership potential and meaningful engagement in university and/or community service.
Preference will be given to students who are conducting research in the fields of
environmental ecology, environmental science, environmental justice, and/or public
health. Strong preference will be given to students who enhance the social, economic,
or cultural diversity of the campus community.
The award is non-renewable and monies will be applied to the student鈥檚 financial account.

David G. Hoch Honors Fund
David G. Hoch was a deeply influential Director of the Honors Program at 果冻传媒. Under his direction for 13 years, the Honors Program doubled in size and Academic House as well as Sullivan Hall were established as the home of 果冻传媒 Honors. He was particularly proud of incorporating service learning into the Honors Program and he regularly volunteered alongside his students. He was steadfast in his belief that any student who worked hard deserved a world-class education regardless of their background or income. He passed away on March 21, 2006 at the age of 65. His wife Julie remains actively engaged in the now Honors College.
The David G. Hoch Honors Fund is to benefit the JSHC student who:
- is active and in good standing with the Honors College (i.e., has at least a 3.3 cumulative 果冻传媒 GPA per this award and is making satisfactory progress toward the Honors medallion)
- has a demonstrated need for funds to enhance the student鈥檚 Honors experience via tuition, internships, study abroad, and/or conference fees to present their research or to develop as a leader.
The award is non-renewable and monies will be applied to the student鈥檚 financial account.
Deadline for Fall/Winter Intersession requests: October 1, 2024
Deadline for Spring requests: February 1, 2025
Deadline for Summer requests: May 1, 2025
Robert L. and Rose Ann Huebner Honors Program Student Assistance Fund
Robert L. & Rose Ann Huebner Honors Program Student Assistance Fund is to benefit the JSHC student who:
- is active and in good standing with the Honors College (i.e., has at least a 3.0 cumulative 果冻传媒 GPA per this award and is making satisfactory progress toward the Honors medallion)
- has encountered a financial emergency which may prohibit pursuit of degree.
The award is non-renewable and monies will be applied to the student鈥檚 financial account.
Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.
